Your first cut

From a page of frames to a sequence that plays: make it, play it, open a scene.

Every top-level frame on a page can be a scene. A sequence puts them on V1 one after another, sized like the first frame and at its frame rate.

Make a sequence

Make a sequence from the page’s frames · 0:06
Description

A five-frame story ad in Edit mode with no sequence yet: the empty state offers New sequence from the page’s 5 frames. Clicking it lays the frames on V1 back to back, Hook, Offer, Picks, Perk and Call to action, and Space plays the cut in the program monitor.

  1. Click Edit in the top bar. With no sequence in the file, the timeline says Cut your scenes into a video.
  2. Click New sequence from the page's frames. Select some frames first to use only those (New sequence from n selected frames). They go on V1 left to right, in the order they sit on the page.
  3. Press Space (or click Play) to play it in the program monitor.

Other ways to make one:

  • + next to Sequences in the left panel, or the sequence picker in the timeline header → New sequence from frames.
  • In Animate, the clapperboard in the transport bar → New composition from frames; it opens in Edit.
  • The command palette: Open Edit workspace (⌘⇧E) makes one from the selected frames if the file has none.
  • Ask the agent: "make a 15-second cut from these frames".

Open a scene's animation

Edit a scene’s animation · 0:03
Description

The AI trailer in Edit. Right-clicking the End card scene on V1 opens its menu, and Edit this scene’s animation switches to Animate with the End card frame selected and its own timeline of keys in the panel below.

  1. Right-click a clip on the timeline and choose Edit this scene's animation (or click Edit this scene's animation in the clip inspector).
  2. Animate opens with that frame selected and its own timeline in the panel. Change its keys there.
  3. Click Edit in the top bar to go back: the sequence shows the change.

Manage sequences

  • Switch: the sequence picker at the left of the timeline header lists every sequence in the file; so does the Sequences list at the top of the left panel.
  • Settings: the picker → Sequence settings: the stage's width and height, frame rate, background and Loop in Present.
  • Rename: the picker → Rename sequence, or right-click it in the left panel.
  • Delete: right-click it in the left panel → Delete. Its frames stay on the page.

Edit reopens the sequence you had open last in each file.
