Description

The AI trailer’s timeline: V3, V2 (Titles), V1 (Shots), A1 (Music) and A2. Hiding V2 takes the title cards off the program monitor; locking it greys it out so no edit lands there. Right-clicking V3’s header adds a track above it, and Delete track removes the empty one again. Solo on A1 plays only the music.

How tracks work

  • V1 is the main track. Its scenes play back to back: it is magnetic, so there are never gaps, and trimming or deleting a scene pulls the ones after it along. Reorder scenes by dragging them along V1.
  • V2 and up are layers. A clip there is placed freely at any time, with gaps, and plays over everything below it, with its own opacity and blend mode. Higher tracks are on top.
  • A1 and down are sound. Music, voice and effects, each clip with its own volume, pan and fades. A scene's own sound (a video's audio, sound added in Animate) plays with it from V1 or a layer track.

How to

Hide, lock or solo a track

  1. Click the eye on a video track's header to hide it from the monitor and the export. Click again to show it.
  2. Click the lock to keep every edit off it: a locked track greys out, and cuts, ripples and drags pass it by.
  3. On an audio track, the speaker mutes it and the headphones solo it (only soloed tracks are heard).

Add, rename or delete a track

  1. Right-click a track's header.
  2. Choose Add track above or Add track below: the tracks after it renumber. Or use +V (a video track on top) and +A (an audio track at the bottom) at the top of the headers.
  3. Rename track names it (Shots, Titles, Music); the name shows on its header and in the mixer.
  4. Delete track removes it with its clips (the menu says how many). V1 can't be deleted, nor can a locked track.

Target tracks

Click a track's badge (V1, A1…) to target it. Cuts at the playhead (⌘B), Q and W, and close gap land on the targeted tracks; with none targeted they land on every unlocked track. Shift-click or ⌘B with clips picked cuts only those clips.
