Boards

PopCorn — whiteboards that live in the same file as your design work.

PopCorn is the whiteboard mode. It's the same canvas, the same file format and the same multiplayer as the rest of PopCraft, so a workshop can turn into a design without anybody exporting anything.

Stickies on a brainstorm board · 0:06
Description

A brainstorm board in PopCorn. S picks the sticky tool; a click drops a sticky note, and “Launch in spring” is typed on it. A second sticky goes beside it.

Press S and click to drop a sticky note, then type on it. Esc finishes, and the next S drops another.

Getting there

Make a Board file — it opens in PopCorn — or hit PopCorn in the top bar of any file to switch the current one into board mode.

Start from a board template: Brainstorm, Kanban, Flowchart, User journey or Retro.

The toolset

The toolbar swaps to the board set:

  • Sticky S — place one and type straight into it
  • Washi tape W — decorative tape for grouping and labelling, with torn, zigzag, fishtail and angled edges, in a set of papery colors
  • Stamps — Love, Star, Approve, No, +1, Smile, Fire, Question, Important, Look
  • Brush, Text, Shapes, Frames and Tables, as everywhere else
  • Connectors that stay attached to what they join

Running a session

  • Timer — a countdown everyone can see, for a timeboxed round
  • Voting — each person gets a number of dots to spend; results tally live
  • Comments C — threaded, anchored to the board
  • Emotes — a reaction that pops over your cursor, for the ones that don't need a sticky

Spotlight asks everyone to follow your viewport, which is how you herd thirty people to the right corner of a big board. Click an avatar to follow one person instead.

Tidying up

Tidy up (Mod+Alt+T) turns a scatter of stickies into an even grid. Frames work as columns, so a rough brainstorm becomes a kanban by dragging stickies into framed lanes.

Turning a board into a design

Nothing needs converting. Switch the mode back to Design and the full toolset is there, on the same canvas, with the board's contents still in place — copy them onto a frame and keep going.
