Photos

Openly licensed stock photos, searched in the app, saved into your file with their credit.

PopCraft searches Openverse for openly licensed photos — Creative Commons and public domain pictures from Flickr, Wikimedia Commons and other collections — without leaving the canvas.

Where to find them

Search stock photos and add one · 0:07
Description

A launch post. Shapes → Photos searches openly licensed pictures; “wedding” is typed and the results come in, each with its creator and licence. One is clicked and placed on the canvas, its credit saved with it.

Fill a frame with a stock photo · 0:08
Description

A launch post with its frame selected. Its fill opens; Image, then Photos searches “cake”, and a photo picked from the results becomes the frame’s image fill.

  • Assets → Photos. Search, then click a photo to add it at the centre of the view, or drag it onto the canvas. With a photo frame selected (or dropped onto), the photo fills the frame instead.
  • Fill picker → Image → Photos. Pick a photo and it becomes the layer's image fill, with Fill, Fit, Crop and Tile as for any image.

Search as you type; more results load as you scroll. By default only licences that allow commercial use and changes are searched (CC0, public domain, CC BY and CC BY-SA). Choose Any Creative Commons licence to include non-commercial and no-derivatives pictures too.

Photos you used recently are listed when the search box is empty. That list belongs to the file's workspace: a team's files share one, your personal files another, and a file that isn't in the cloud keeps its own. It never shows your own uploads — only stock photos. Your uploads and generated media are in the media library.

Offline

Searching needs a connection. A photo you pick is downloaded once, into the file's own media, so it keeps working offline, in exports and on your other devices.

Credits

Most Creative Commons licences ask you to credit the photographer. PopCraft keeps each photo's title, creator, licence and source with the picture:

  • select an image layer and the inspector shows its Photo credit, with links to the photo, the creator and the licence; an image fill shows it in the fill picker;
  • SVG exports list the credits in the file's metadata, and PDF exports in the document properties (Subject).

Crediting the photo where you publish your design — a caption, a credits page — is still up to you.

For agents

search_photos finds photos (with their licences) and insert_photo adds one as a layer, or as the fill of a layer or photo frame. See Tool names.
