Nesting sequences
Turn clips into a sequence of their own and use it as one clip, or put any sequence inside another.
A nested sequence is a whole sequence used as one clip: Premiere's nest, After Effects' precomp, Final Cut's compound clip. It keeps a busy timeline tidy, and lets you move, fade, grade or animate a group of clips as one.
Description
The AI trailer’s timeline. V2’s header is right-clicked and Select all on track picks every title; one of them is right-clicked and Nest clips turns them into a new sequence, shown as one magenta clip on V2 that still plays every title. Its right-click menu opens the nested sequence.
Nest clips
Pick clips on V2 and up (shift-click, or right-click a track header and Select all on track), then right-click one and choose Nest clips (or run Nest clips from the command palette). They become a new sequence, with the same size and frame rate, keeping their tracks and their timing. One clip of it takes their place on the lowest of their tracks. Picture and sound play exactly as before.
V1 is the main track and cannot be nested: move a scene to V2 first (right-click → Move to V2).
Use a sequence inside another
The bin's Sequences list shows the file's other sequences. + puts one on V2 at the playhead as a clip; the film icon opens it.
A nested clip is a clip like any other: trim it, slip it, move it, fade it, give it Motion, effects or a blend mode. Right-click it and choose Open the nested sequence (or use the button in the clip inspector) to edit inside it; every change shows wherever it is used.
Its sound is mixed in with this sequence's tracks and master. The nested sequence's own track effects and master bus are not applied when it plays inside another. Its captions are not drawn inside another sequence either.
A sequence cannot hold itself, directly or through another.
